Weight loss with moringa and ginger: How to lose weight naturally with moringa and ginger

Weight loss is a necessity for almost everyone at one point or the other in their lifetime. There are variety of foods you can take to trim down your weight and several exercises to keep your body in shape.

One of the various ways that could help you lose excess weight is by taking Moringa and ginger drink. Moringa oleifera is also known as Behen, Indian horseradish or the drumstick herb, indigenous to India, Asia, and Africa, the leaves of the moringa tree are highly nutritious.

They’re rich in vitamins, minerals, and other beneficial plant micro and macronutrients. Also
polyphenols present in moringa leaves have anti-cancer properties and this has a tendency of reducing the risk of  heart disease and diabetes.

Fruits and vegetables also contain high levels of polyphenols which is one of the reasons why better health have been associated with diets rich in these foods.

Moringa also contains some beneficial substances such as glucosinolates which actively helps you in shedding excess weight. The effects of Moringa on our body's metabolic activities makes us have less appetite for food, eat and drink less and these seemingly "stay low on food" effects help us to burn the unwanted calories faster and easier.

Moringa can also be combined with other plants to get optimum results of weight loss. Laboratory and animal studies indicates that moringa can decrease fat formation and increase fat breakdown.

These effects are not yet known to translate to humans as the Moringa effect of weight loss has not been studied in isolation in man.

However, the need to supplement moringa with other plants is necessary. One of those plants that Moringa can be supplemented with is Ginger, Zingiber officinale. Ginger is a plant that is usually grown for its root, a spice used in cooking and baking. Health benefits and or medicinal properties of Ginger includes decrease in inflammation, improved digestion, and suppressing your appetite.

These properties similar to Moringa may make ginger a suitable recipe for weight loss. Literature has it that taking ginger alongside a healthy diet and exercise helps you to maintain a healthy weight. Ginger contains chemical compounds called gingerols and shogaols.

These phytochemicals especially gingerols catalyses various metabolic activities in the body when you ingest ginger. They have an anti-obesity effect by helping food to digest faster and stimulate the body to speed digested food through the colon.

Research suggests that gingerols may stabilize your blood sugar levels. Stabilizing blood sugar levels can be key to losing weight. Research also shows that being obese can cause oxidative stress and inflammation. Oxidative stress is caused by damage from free radicals in the body.

The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of Ginger help control these free radicals and counter inflammation respectively. Although these properties of ginger don’t miraculously shed your excess weight, but they help to prevent several cardiovascular diseases and other adverse effects associated with being overweight while you cut down excess pounds.

Several other studies also supports the idea that ginger could possibly play a role in weight loss as well. One small study found that overweight men who consumed ginger stayed fuller longer. A meta-analysis that studied the weight loss benefits of ginger suggests that ginger has a significant effect on body weight and belly fat.

Further research documented in the Journal of the Science and Food of Agriculture evaluated the effect of ginger on obese rats in 2014. After ingesting ginger water for a month, the studies confirmed significant weight differences in the rats (1).

These two beneficial plants: Moringa and Ginger can therefore be combined when weight loss is the goal.

Weight Loss with Moringa and Ginger drink

You get to decide how you want to make  your drink; either to make Moringa leaves into fine powder and add to ginger juice for weight loss or vice versa. As for me, I prefer to make ginger juice and add Moringa Powder.

Here is how to make Ginger juice and Moringa Powder at home:
Collect fresh and healthy looking ginger.
Rinse them to be free from debris and cut them into bits.
Blend unpeeled ginger (about a medium sized ginger) in a blender along with about one cup of water.
You may filter to remove the chaff if you like. After filtering, you have your clear ginger juice or extract.
You can add some extra ingredients like water or better still, ice cubes or even honey (natural sweetener) to  dilute and sweeten your ginger juice and also to reduce the pungent, hot spicy taste of undiluted ginger if you like. Losing weight does not mean you cannot enjoy your drink. Be rigid about your goals but be flexible about your plan and methods. As a matter of fact, these extra ingredients have hydrating properties and are immune boosters.

How to make Moringa Powder:

Collect fresh Moringa leaves from a healthy Moringa tree. Generally, the best time to collect leaves is early in the morning before the sun rises.
Remove all debris from the leaves.
The collected leaves should be air-dried indoors (in order to keep the flavor, colour and the medicinal properties of the herb intact. Sun-drying leaves to be used for herbs may bleach the leaves of its flavor)
Blend the dried leaves into a fine powder.
It is that simple!

Moringa powder has been suggested to promote weight loss. The fine powder can be added to meals without altering the taste or aroma of the food. You can also consume your Moringa leaves as a vegetable when freshly steamed.

How to Make your Moringa and Ginger drink or "Moringer drink" as I fondly call it.

After your ginger juice has been made to taste and your moringa powder is ready
Add a teaspoon of moringa powder to your ginger drink juice and  your most desired weight loss drink is ready to burn some fat.

Drink once or twice a day for better results. You can take your juice first thing in the morning or last thing before going  to bed. Either ways, the potency of your juice is not affected and you will stay in shape as desired.

You may even come up with your own "Moringer drink" schedule. It is your body and nobody understands your body better than you do. You get to know what works best for you. It is important to note that Ginger is a known diuretic; so while it helps to fill you and trim down your weight, it is vital to drink water with ginger to prevent dehydration. For every glass of your "Moringer drink" take a glass of water afterwards.

A healthy diet and frequent exercise cannot be ruled out in the game of weight loss. Be disciplined in your diet, reduce processed foods and balance your diet with natural weight loss supplements like "Moringer juice"
